Issues and Goals
Public education is essential to the health of our neighborhoods, the strength of our economy and a better future for all.
The challenging issues facing Madison schools are:
- The funding crisis, which threatens to weaken our school programs and demoralize our staff, students, parents, teachers, and tear our community apart.
- A school year that includes both an exodus of leadership and wonderful opportunities to chart new courses for the future.
- The importance of a Board that includes members with a history, depth, and long-time knowledge and experience.
- The changing demographics of our District, which require someone who has experience with and an appreciation for a diverse student body and community.
I am committed to:
- Raising the performance level of all students while closing the achievement gap.
- Maintaining high standards of education by offering a challenging curriculum taught by well-trained teachers.
- Providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for all children.
- Increasing communication between schools and families.
- Helping children learn by making sure they have the resources they need.
- Securing adequate funding for the district so that we can maintain vibrant neighborhoods by keeping ALL schools open.
- Improving community confidence in our schools and our School Board.
